Update for CSUEB Veterans Advisory Committee Meeting December 15, 2009

Cal State East Bay Student Veterans Organization
Current & Future Status Fall09-Winter2010

1. The organization has approximately 22 members including five officers on its roster.

The SVO had a rough start this quarter due to the New 9/11 GI Bill payment delay and confusion which forced most of its officers and members to come up with the money to pay their bills through working and borrowing.

2. SVO celebrated Veterans Day at AppleBee’s Restaurant. For FREE!

3. SVO created its first official logo as seen above. Thanks to Sam!

4. SVO developed its mentorship program.
Winter Quarter 2010 Plan Activities

1. Mentorship Program to continue and improve.

2. SVO to develop and implement Student Orientation Program for Veterans

3. (1) Winter Field Trip

4. (1) Volunteer event

5. (1) Barbecue event

6. Can ASI exempt SVO from the 10% requirement on supplemental funding? Or Can the school or Veterans office provide SVO a budget of $100 so SVO doesn’t have to come out 10% suppplemental funding?

If that can happen, it would be easy for SVO to implement activities/event since we can focus more on organizational activities instead of fundraising activities. Also, to purchase food, materials, etc. for event, SVO has to use one of its member’s credit card first, then ASI will refund the credit card. This requirement has become an obstacle to make an event especially that SVO officers doesn’t have that readily available resources to do so. For example, with the delay in 9/11 GI Bill payment, most officers are max in their credit card and had to cancel the barbecue event for the Fall quarter 09. Can the school or ASI provide SVO a prepaid card account with built-in system that ensure transparency and accountability?

Finally, with the growing enrollment of Veterans on campus, can the school provide additional working-student to support the School’s Veterans office to ensure timely processing and certification of classes and benefits?

Very Respectfully,

Raymund Golez, Student Veterans Organization
