Job Fair San Jose 1100-1500 Parkside Hall San Jose

Job Fair San Jose Military veterans and their spouses eligible for job fair in San Jose The job search is a daunting ordeal for anyone, but for those who've spent time serving in the military, the weak economy is only made more difficult by a jarring transition to civilian life. That transition is one that Recruit Military, a veteran job fair organizer, hopes to make easier by offering job and opportunity expos for military veterans and spouses such as the upcoming fair in San Jose on Saturday. "Often, what's on a military résumé doesn't translate as easily to a civilian job description," said Recruit Military's marketing director, Karen Galvin. But with fairs targeted specifically toward the veteran hiring pool, large corporations, local businesses and educational institutions can pull from a group that is "diverse and full of leaders and excellent team players." Military life also poses logistical challenges for vet seeking jobs, and spouses may have had to move often, leaving behind established career networks. The fair will have booths from corporations such as Lockheed Martin, Home Depot and Verizon Wireless, as well as other government agencies like the Central Intelligence Agency. Educational institutions like DeVry and Troy universities also offer educational opportunities for veterans who want to capitalize on the GI Bill. Recruit Military's jobs and opportunities expo runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday at Parkside Hall in San Jose. The free expo is only open to military veterans and Advertisement spouses. Galvin said she expects 300 to 500 veterans who "run the gamut" in terms of age will visit the booths from over 30 employers and organizations. Despite the rough job market, Galvin said a military career can have important advantages in experience. "In the military, the were in charge of personnel and millions of dollars of assets," she said. "Someone straight out college doesn't have that. Contact Ellen Huet at 408-920-5852.
